Collective Thought Media engaged with The Newport Hotel Collection and Discover Newport to create a 13 part hotel and lifestyle marketing video series. 

Challenge: Create all new video and photography assets for the Newport Hotel Collection, a newly formed marketing collaborative for Newport, Rhode Island hotels and inns with 20 or more guest rooms. Photo and video coverage for each of the dozen properties had to be consistent, although there was a wide variety between hotels in regards to size and features. Additionally, Collective Thought Media was tasked with creating lifestyle & tourism video content around Newport, RI that showcased the popular area attractions and restaurants.     

Solution: Working alongside Discover Newport’s creative team, Collective Thought Media was responsible for moving the project through creative direction, production management and post-production. By helping the NHC develop long and short term goals for their video marketing, Collective Thought Media crafted a unified approach to completing the project, which had over a dozen deliverables. The creative vision was crafted around showcasing each properties unique aspects, while creating a similar branded feel to each finished video. Moving beyond simple video tours, the goal was to showcase the small details, human interaction and lifestyle aspects of each property.

In addition to the hotel property content, Collective Thought Media also suggested a two day lifestyle shoot around Newport, RI with 5 actors, a stylist and a hair and make-up artist. Footage from the two day lifestyle shoot was to be incorporated into the hotel videos, as well as separate marketing videos designed to showcase Newport, RI as a tourism destination.

Details:  Collective Thought Media took on the project understanding that efficiency in communication, execution and scheduling would be critical. With over a dozen separate contacts and locations to manage, Collective Thought Media created an online questionnaire form that each hotel manager or marketing director could fill out. This questionnaire gave Collective Thought Media and the project collaborators all of the important information for each property in a single online location.

Working closely with Discover Newport’s marketing and creative staff, Collective Thought Media completed all necessary pre-production within 30 days from the start of the project. Collective Thought Media utilized the online project management tool AirTable to schedule, track and share the status of the different shoots. Additionally, a dedicated still photographer was scheduled for each of the hotel shoots, in order to capture updated & consistent photography of all locations.

Production Notes: Collective Thought Media executed the video production of all hotel properties over a three month period, culminating with a two day lifestyle shoot at over 8 different locations on Aquidneck Island. Collective Thought Media utilized a three person team for most shoots, bringing on a hair and make-up artist for the two days of model lifestyle shoots.

Collective Thought Media used mobile, v-mount powered LED lights to allow for fast and powerful on-location lighting, ensuring all hotel rooms and public areas were shot at optimal exposure levels.  

Collective Thought Media utilized a variety of motion control devices and stabilizers including motorized slider dollies, various hand-held 3-axis gimbals, and a Phantom 4 Pro drone. Collective Thought Media uses a certified FAA Part 107 commercial aerial operator, and made sure every aerial mission was completed safely and in accordance with all FAA guidelines.

Footage was shot in a variety of formats including 4k 4096×2160 at up to 120fps, 2k 2048×1080 at up to 240fps, and UHD 3840×2160 at 24fps.

Post-Production Deliverables: Collective Thought Media used Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Lightroom and Photoshop for the editing, color correction and delivery of the final digital assets.

Combining customized hand-written animated introductions, a compelling musical score and the best footage from each property, the 11 separate hotel edits were edited and delivered promptly to the NHC and it’s members. 

NHC members received two separate edited files, one with the Newport Hotel Collection co-branding logo, and one featuring just the individual property branding for their own use.
