When you really need to shoot and edit video professionally, it pays to have new, up-to-date equipment in post-production. Below is my 2017 build list for a mid budget price that will crush some pre-built systems that cost significantly more.

This build would get you into the newest consumer-grade architecture Intel 6700K chip, with a 512GB M.2 SSD for operating system, 64GB of DDR4 RAM, a new GTX1080 8GB GPU, a 1000 watt PSU to power everything, and liquid CPU cooling. On top of that, you get a very sleek, slient tower. For file storage you get a total of 25TB. That’s 12TB in RAID-0 (read/write around 500MB/sec) for primary media files, 12TB of incremental backup space, and two 512GB SSDs, one for dedicated preview/cache/paging files and the other as a dedicated render drive. For a total of just under $4k, this price is the same as some workstaions with just a single drive (MacPro, HP Z, etc).
